The salt factory is a key connecting element in the seawater infrastructure and the Masterplan for Lusail. It is here that the salt building material is created and transported to be brought to construction sites. The design is an exploration of the architectural possibilities of the salt material – things like building with compressive forces, translucency, colour and production method.

The design consists of a generated shell form made out of 3D printed panels. Under the shell the production process is situated. Supporting spaces are organized in poured blocks of salt, shaded by the shell. A public route outlining the possibilities of the material runs through the factory on a higher level.

The Salt Factory is nominated for the Archiprix by the TU Delft.
